Ben was the winner of several prizes for academic excellence while earning his Bachelor of Life Science degree, summa cum laude, from McMaster University. He was on the verge of completing a combined Honours Bachelor of Biology and Psychology when he was accepted into Queen’s Law School in Kingston, Ontario.
Ben is a determined litigator who has always sought out opportunities to represent people in need. In first year of law school, he was already advocating before the Social Benefits Tribunal, the Social Security Tribunal, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Landlord and Tenant Board and the Ontario Court of Justice. While still in law school, he represented clients before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Divisional Court.
After being called to the bar, Ben began his legal career in Hamilton, Ontario. Over several years he handled a wide range of civil litigation cases, including personal injury, insurance defense, corporate litigation, estate litigation, contract disputes and tax appeals. He also did some solicitor’s work including estate planning and administration, and corporate work.
Ben and his wife moved to Vernon to join Martin Estate and Injury Law, where Ben practices in the fields of insurance defense and family law.
Outside the office, Ben is a commissioned officer with the CAF Reserves, formerly serving with the 713 Thunderbolt Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Stoney Creek, Ontario. He has had responsibility for training a squadron of cadets. Ben enjoys hiking, target shooting and relaxing with a glass of brandy or scotch with friends. He is known for his warmth of heart and “punny” sense of humour. Ben and his wife are excited to explore the natural beauty of the Okanagan.
