Born and raised in Grande Prairie, Alberta with his older brother and younger sister, Brett moved to Calgary after graduating from St Joseph Catholic High School to attend the University of Calgary. Brett earned a Bachelor of Arts in Ancient and Medieval History – an interdisciplinary degree with courses ranging from Greek and Roman history to Reformation Europe and western religious studies. Brett learned the importance of law in western history and how law can create, resolve and prevent conflict. During his studies Brett was selected to conduct an independent research project in Ghana to study the Sport for Development programs. He presented his research findings at the University of Calgary’s Undergraduate Research Symposium.

While living in Calgary Brett continued to pursue his passion for freestyle skiing and worked his way up to leading the Alberta Park & Pipe team for several years. This experience brought Brett to ski hills and prestigious competitions around the world such as Dew Tour events, World Cups, World Championships, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Youth Olympics.

Brett chose to attend the Thompson Rivers Law School in Kamloops, BC because of its Sports Law specialty. He also loved the Interior of BC and its beautiful mountains. During his time at TRU, Brett gained valuable experience as a paid law student and later volunteered at TRU’s Community Legal Clinic which provides pro-bono legal services to disadvantaged and underserved people in the Thompson-Okanagan region.

It is important to Brett to use his legal skills to help those who are at a disadvantage in the justice system or are being bullied by those in power

After graduating from law school, Brett wanted to stay in the Okanagan and make his home here. He articled at a boutique personal injury and estate litigation firm in Kelowna where he practiced civil litigation and also went to court for some legal aid criminal defense.

When not at work, you can usually find Brett at the gym, skiing up at Big White, road or mountain biking, or hiking with his furry sidekick, a 100 lb puppy (and growing!)
